The year 2008 is a Leap Year, and today is Leap Day. If you were born on Leap Day, you’re a leapling. Congratulations, you’re a very special person. We regular folks have a birthday on the same day, year after year. That’s not very special, if you ask me.
Leap Day is special because it’s the day that was selected from all the other days to keep the calendar months aligned with the seasons. If it weren’t for Leap Day, summer might well be in the middle of winter, which is much to cold for the beach!
So if your birthday falls on February 29th, don’t despair. It’s quite acceptable to celebrate your birth day on February 28th and March 1st, allowing you two birthday parties during non-leap years. Now that’s special!
