Midnight at Monet’s

Monet sometimes received visitors when his schedule allowed, and a garden tour never required much prompting. The magnificent garden was captivating, and Monet was always quick to usher lingering guests over to the pond before the water lilies closed up for the night.

I imagine if his tropical varieties had bloomed at night, Monet’s water garden might have looked something like today’s pastel. However, if there had been night blooming lilies at Giverny, they also would have been opening up at about the same time that the others were closing.

Maybe it was intentional there weren’t any night blooming varieties planted in the water garden. The dear man would have been out there 24 hours a day!

I love the atmosphere of this one Lisa! I can hear crickets chirping and a light breeze going through those willows and nothing else except the quiet of night-time.
This is so calming, fantastic work!!

Thank Rita! It’s my first night scene, and I enjoyed using a limited palette.

I hear frogs, but they have a French accent. :D They’re very sophisticated frogs.
