Pastel: Field of Red Poppies

Poppies
Field of Red Poppies
Soft Pastel, 12×16

I finally got back to the basement today. The little broken digit has been a very big annoyance. It hasn’t finished mending yet, and I’m tired of waiting for it. Besides, it lets me know when I’ve had enough for one day.

I’ve intialed the poppies, but I think they need more gradual definition in the flower heads. They seem to jump from near to distant with not much in between. Regardless, it’s my best landscape so far, so I really can’t complain too much.

The poppies are 12 x 16 on Wallis Belgian Mist.

Lisa, this is a stunning effort. I keep looking at fields of poppies and turning away, intimidated. I would love to tackle such a painting.

Thank you, Robyn. Fields of flowers seem to be begging to be painted, don’t they? Get some pictures and enjoy them anyway. I have lots of reference material I know I’m not ready to try yet.

It’s taken me three years of practice (really bad pastels) to work up to trying this one, and I appreciate the encouragement.
